Our Hiking Blog

Informing you about bushwalking, hiking & backpacking

Welcome Twitter friends!

Frank resting - Walls of Jerusalem - TasmaniaHi, I’m Frank Wall.

I’m the guy behind the @frank_in_oz Twitter account.

I wrote this page for my followers so you could learn a bit more about me and how I use Twitter.

While I maintain the Twitter account, this blog is a family venture. You can read more about us at the About Page.

How I use Twitter.

I use Twitter to find interesting people. Even though I like hiking, I don’t just follow outdoors people. I also follow technology, outdoors, human rights, current affairs, travel and some very funny people. If you’re up for a chat and want me to return the follow, just send me an @ reply. That way I know there’s a real person behind the account.

I’m not a marketer. I don’t do follow Friday, auto DM’ing or any of that stuff. I’m just a bloke that users Twitter for fun. I tweet our blog posts and will share links and stuff that I find interesting.

I’m always up for a chat but if you want a detailed response, its best to email us. We love hearing from those who are coming to Australia, especially to the Great Ocean Road region or Tasmania. We’ll gladly share advice but if you are from overseas, the help we can offer is limited.

About “Our Hiking Blog”: We love hiking, bushwalking and the wilderness. The blog is about sharing information with novice and experienced walkers across the world on how to plan and undertake trips.

By mixing that up with some great pictures, hints, tips, gear reviews and personal stories we hope that our readers enjoy reading about them as much as we enjoy sharing.

I’ve written a few ebooks. We have one based on our experiences hiking The Overland Track. If you’re unsure, we have a try before you buy offer. You can check out the information by clicking here. I’m also working on one about lightweight food called ‘Food To Go.’ The information is not limited to hikers and you can sign up for advance notice (and a 20% discount) by clicking here.

I’m available for help via email. I genuinely like helping people so contact us if you want us to expand on information featured on the blog. We prefer you use the comment section so that other people can learn from the discussion.

We regularly feature contributions from our community. We feature guest posts, interviews and top posts from hiking blogs. We also like learning about new walks and products of interest to our readers. If you have a topic for a post, please contact me via Twitter or email.

About me. As background, I live in Geelong, Victoria, Australia. Over the last 5-6 years we have rediscovered hiking (I usually head out with my wife of 30+ years, Sue) and get out into the bush as often as possible. Our focus is usually on multi-day hikes and our preferred location is in Tasmania. With the advent of cheaper airfares it is relatively easy for us to fly the one hour to northern Tasmania and be in pristine wilderness a couple of hours after that.

After 25 + years in the health and hospital fields as a Registered Nurse, I escaped and started working as a Crystal Reports / Business Objects / Process Redesign information technology contractor. This has been a successful new career and has given me a lot more flexibility to do the things we really enjoy. As I said earlier, there is some more information on our About Us page
